Revising and Proofreading
Traits of Good Writing
Please remember to check for these items when revising:
1. Do NOT use the following: I think, I feel, I believe, In my opinion... (Remove them and make a statement instead of weakening it with an opinion.)
2. Do NOT use any second person pronouns (you, your, yours, yourself). This is NOT a How-To paper. -- Unless it is used directly in the quoted text evidence.
3. Check your capitalization--Americans, not americans
4. Do NOT start any sentences with "here" or "there." Find an appropriate subject and rearrange your sentence.
5. Do not talk about your paper in your paper. For example, do NOT say, "In this paper, I am going to tell you about..." "In this paragraph, you will learn about..."
6. Do NOT include your three specific ideas on patriotism in your thesis. Your thesis should be a general statement that summarizes the entire paper.
7. If you used numbers, be sure to spell out the numbers for 1-10. Four, not 4...
